Solar power is an infinitely renewable energy source. The sun, which provides us with sunlight, is expected to shine for billions of years. Unlike fossil fuels that contribute to pollution and climate change, solar energy is clean, green, and sustainable. By harnessing the power of the sun, you reduce your carbon footprint and help combat global warming.
One of the most immediate benefits of going solar is the potential for significant savings on your energy bills. Solar panels generate electricity from sunlight, which can power your home or business. This means you can reduce your reliance on expensive grid electricity and even sell excess energy back to the grid, earning you extra income or credits.
Investing in solar panels is not just an eco-conscious choice; it's a smart financial decision. Over time, the money saved on energy bills can pay off your initial investment and provide substantial long-term savings. Additionally, the UK Government VAT relief initative for installing renewable technologies and joining the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) can also make the transition to solar even more financially appealing.
With solar panels, you gain a degree of energy independence. You are less susceptible to energy price fluctuations and power outages. By generating your electricity, you have greater control over your energy future and can rely on a consistent source of power.
Homes and businesses equipped with solar panels tend to have higher property values. Potential buyers and investors recognise the long-term cost savings and environmental benefits, making solar-powered properties more attractive in the property market.
Switching to solar power significantly reduces your environmental impact. It helps decrease greenhouse gas emissions, air pollution, and dependence on finite fossil fuels. By choosing solar, you contribute to a healthier and more sustainable planet for future generations.
Solar power enhances energy security. In times of natural disasters or emergencies, solar panels with battery storage can provide a reliable source of electricity, ensuring that you and your loved ones have access to essential power.

Enjoy the efficiency and ease of having your car battery topped up using energy you produce yourself.
Opting for an electric vehicle (EV) is already a savvy financial move, potentially costing as little as £5 to cover 100 miles of travel, depending on the specific make and model. However, combining your EV with solar-powered charging takes this smart choice to the next level. Here's why:
Charging an EV is notably more economical than refueling a conventional gasoline-powered vehicle. When you factor in solar energy as the source of your charging power, the cost savings become even more compelling. Solar energy tends to be more cost-effective than grid electricity, making a solar-powered EV the best of both worlds in terms of affordability.
Integrating a battery system into your solar setup opens up the possibility of charging your EV overnight. This flexibility ensures your vehicle is always ready for action, regardless of when you need it, while also taking advantage of potentially lower electricity rates during off-peak hours.
As EVs become increasingly common in the UK, the cost of operating these vehicles will often be bundled into household bills due to the need for charging stations. By investing in a solar panel and battery system now, you are proactively protect yourself against the ongoing rise in energy costs. Your system not only powers you home but also serves as a solar-powered electric vehicle charging station.

Solar panels are a great investment for those wanting to save money on their energy bills. The money you can save depends on your home energy profile, and the current cost of your bills, so your savings will be unique to you.
As an example, one of our customers has manage to save over £1000 on their energy bills in just over 8 months using a solar and storage battery system. Contact our team today to find out how much solar panels could save you. It is important to note that individual savings are dependent on the customer's annual usage and the size of the solar PV system installed.
Solar panels are a great investment for those wanting to reduce their energy bills. There are lots or reasons to choose solar panels, and investing in solar panels now is also a great way to protect your future, especially in the face of rising energy costs.
Space allocation is a critical factor to consider when installing a solar PV system. On average, a system typically has a size of around 3.7kWp, requiring approximately 20 square meters of roof space.
For optimal electrical output, an unshaded, South-facing roof is preferrable. While East or West-facing roof can still be a viable options, particularly as panels don't require direct sunlight. It is important to note that panels situated on North-facing roofs are not recommended. For context, a solar PV system orientated towards the East or West will typically yield 15-20% less energy compared to one directly facing South.
The presence of nearby structures, trees, or chimneys can cast shadows on your roof, adversely affecting your system's performance.
While finding an unshaded location is preferable, sometimes shading is unavoidable. In such cases, certain solar PV systems can mitigate the impact of shading by utilising 'optimisers', or 'microinverters'. It is worth noting that if shading is not an issue, the use of optimisers is neither necessary nor beneficial, except for the additional monitoring capabilities they provide; they do not increase energy generation.
Solar PV panels are typically categorised as 'permitted developments'. This means in most cases planning permission is not required. Nevertheless, exceptions to this may exist, paarticularly if your property is located within a conservation area, or is a listed building. Therefore it is advisable to consult your local planning office for specific guidance. This is something we ask all our customers to do if they are unsure.
In the event that you are contemplating the installation of a solar PV system in your home, it is imperative to complete a registration process with your Distribution Network Operator (DNO). The DNO is the entity responsible for supplying electricity to your property. This is something that Solar-Techs will complete on your behalf.
For detailed guidance on how to carry out the registration of your new energy system in England, Scotland and Wales, the UK Government provides comprehensive advice.
There will be instances when your solar PV system will generate more electricity than you are able to consume or store. In such cases, the excess electricity is sent back to the grid for others to use.
If you wish to be compensated for this surplus electricity, it is essential to ensure you are enrolled in an export payment scheme with your energy provider. The Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) initiative was designed to financially support small-scale renewable energy producers for the electricity they contribute to the grid, providing certain criteria is met. Embracing solar PV with the SEG in place can result in significantly higher savings compared to systems without it.
Storage batteries come in a range of sizes. The size of the battery your home will need depends on many factors, including how many solar panels you have installed and your home's energy usage.
Solar-Techs offer a range of battery storage options to our customers. Our most popular battery of choice is the Sunsynk 5.12kWh Battery which boast of a 90% usable capacity and works seamlessly with the Sunsynk 3.6kW ECCO Hybrid Inverter.
